Keto made easy

Avocado Bacon Breakfast: My One-Minute Keto Bowl (2017 Clip)

2017-09-06

This is a 58-second kitchen clip from September 2017, never posted to YouTube. There's no explanation in it, just me putting a breakfast together and narrating as I go. The transcript is about fifty words long.

What it is

It's the avocado dressing I kept describing in the early beginner Lives, finally on camera. In July 2017 I talked about dressing an avocado with sambal chili garlic sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, cilantro and mayonnaise (video cTGYIFOTPl8). In another Live the same month I said I put sambal on my avocados and bacon, and mixed in hard-boiled eggs and mayo (video xyEZL0HuejI). This clip is that habit with the soy and cilantro left out.

It fits how I cooked then: cheap, quick, no recipe card, a few ingredients you'd already have in a keto kitchen. Sambal is my go-to heat: I said back then that sriracha has a little sugar in it, and sambal comes from the same company (video xyEZL0HuejI).

As a meal, it's about as easy as keto gets. The thing I'd add now is where it fits. Avocado, bacon and mayo are all fat-heavy. In month one, when you're getting used to keto and fullness matters most, that's fine. Once you're past adaptation and trying to lose, fat is the dial you turn down. By 2019 I was saying bacon is a problem in the weight-loss phase and fine in maintenance (live OBND7135). For a weight-loss version, go lighter on the mayo, or add some eggs to bring the protein up.
